research into the causes of and treatments for otolaryngic diseases by
providing financial support for the research efforts of young
otolaryngologists. The Society has awarded more than $2
million to otolaryngologists-head and neck surgeons in support of
clinical and basic research. These competitive research grant programs
have included funding for resident research projects, research training
grants, and career development grants. The Society focuses grant funding on the research career development of young
otolaryngologists-head and neck surgeons.

Research Career
Development Awards are available to otolaryngologists who hold
full-time, part-time and contributed service medical school faculty
appointments, and who have made a commitment to focus on
patient-oriented research. Awards provide support for research career
development for up to $40,000 of support over a one or two year period.
In an effort to strengthen research support in all areas of
otolaryngology, The Triological Society, several senior societies, and
the AAO-HNSF formed the Combined Otolaryngology Research Effort (CORE)
to broaden research opportunities and streamline and enhance the
research application and review process.
